Is my PC ready for COD Modern Warfare 4? TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot check

MW4 on PC needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot turned on, or you can't play any online mode (Activision - TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Call of Duty). It also needs an AVX-capable CPU and an SSD with 115 GB free (Activision - MW4 PC system requirements). Here's how to check everything in about 5 minutes. Speed check for your GPU and CPU: MW4 spec checker.

Quick checklist

  1. Windows 10 22H2 or newer, or Windows 11
  2. TPM 2.0 shows "ready for use"
  3. BIOS Mode: UEFI, Secure Boot State: On
  4. Windows disk is GPT, not MBR
  5. CPU supports AVX
  6. SSD with 115 GB free

On Windows 11 PCs, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are usually already on, since Windows 11 requires them (Activision - TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Call of Duty).

Step 1: Check TPM 2.0 (tpm.msc)

  1. Press Windows + R, type tpm.msc, press Enter.
  2. Look for "The TPM is ready for use" and Specification Version: 2.0.
  3. If it says "Compatible TPM cannot be found", TPM is probably just off in the BIOS. Go to Step 4.

Step 2: Check Secure Boot (msinfo32)

  1. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, press Enter.
  2. In System Summary, find BIOS Mode. It should say UEFI. If it says Legacy, do Step 3 before anything else.
  3. Find Secure Boot State. It should say On. If it says Off, see Step 4.

Step 3: MBR vs GPT (only if BIOS Mode says Legacy)

Secure Boot only works with UEFI booting, and UEFI needs your Windows disk to be GPT, not MBR (Activision - TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Call of Duty).

  1. Check: right-click Start, open Disk Management, right-click your Windows disk (Disk 0 usually), choose Properties, then the Volumes tab. "Partition style" says GPT or MBR.
  2. Back up anything important first.
  3. Convert with Microsoft's MBR2GPT (no reinstall, data kept): open Command Prompt as administrator and run mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOS. If it passes, run mbr2gpt /convert /allowFullOS.
  4. Restart into BIOS, disable CSM (Legacy support) and set boot mode to UEFI, or Windows won't start (Microsoft Learn - MBR2GPT.EXE).

Step 4: Turn on TPM and Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI

Restart and press Delete (or F2) as the PC starts to enter BIOS. Menu names change between BIOS versions, so check your board's manual if yours looks different.

MSI

Press F7 for Advanced mode, go to Settings > Security > Trusted Computing, set Security Device Support to Enabled, then pick PTT (Intel) or AMD CPU fTPM (AMD). Press F10 to save. Source: MSI - How to enable TPM on MSI motherboards

GIGABYTE (AM4 / sTRX4)

TPM: Advanced Mode > Settings > AMD CPU fTPM > Enabled, save and reboot. Secure Boot (after confirming UEFI + GPT): Boot > CSM Support > Disabled, then Boot > Secure Boot > Secure Boot Mode > Custom, accept "Install Factory Defaults" and "Reset Without Saving". Back in BIOS, Secure Boot should show Active. GIGABYTE says newer AM5 boards running Windows 11 usually have these on already. Source: GIGABYTE - Enable Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (AM4/sTRX4)

ASUS

Turn on Intel PTT (Intel boards) or AMD fTPM (AMD boards) in the Advanced menu. ASUS keeps a per-chipset walkthrough with screenshots: ASUS - How to set up TPM 2.0 in BIOS

ASRock and others

Look for Intel PTT or AMD fTPM under Advanced or Security, and Secure Boot under Security or Boot (with CSM disabled). Check your board's manual or ASRock - support FAQ.

If Windows won't boot after enabling Secure Boot, go back into BIOS and turn Secure Boot off or CSM back on to undo it (GIGABYTE - Enable Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (AM4/sTRX4)). If the options are missing, update your BIOS from the board maker's site. General guide: Microsoft - Enable TPM 2.0 on your PC

Step 5: Check AVX support

MW4 only supports Intel/AMD CPUs with the AVX instruction set (Activision - MW4 PC system requirements). Almost every Intel Core and AMD Ryzen CPU from the last decade has it. To be sure, download Microsoft's free Microsoft Sysinternals - Coreinfo, open Command Prompt in its folder and run coreinfo -accepteula. The AVX line should have a * next to it.

Step 6: SSD with 115 GB free

MW4 needs an SSD with 115 GB free at launch, and updates can need more (Activision - MW4 PC system requirements). A hard drive won't do. To check your drive type, search Start for Defragment and Optimize Drives. The "Media type" column shows Solid state drive or Hard disk drive. Free space shows in File Explorer under This PC.

FAQ

Can I play MW4 without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot?

Not online. Activision says players who do not meet the requirement are restricted from playing any online game mode in Modern Warfare 4.

Which Windows version do I need for MW4 TPM and Secure Boot?

Activision says Windows 10 version 22H2 or later, or any Windows 11 version.

Which CPUs have firmware TPM?

Per Activision: Intel 8th Gen or newer (Intel PTT) and AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer (AMD fTPM), or a board with a discrete TPM chip.

Will converting MBR to GPT delete my files?

Microsoft's MBR2GPT tool converts without changing or deleting data on the disk, but back up first anyway.

Changing BIOS settings is at your own risk. Back up first and check your motherboard manual. Activision recommends asking your hardware maker or a pro if you're unsure (Activision - TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for Call of Duty). Checked 2026-10-22.
